I hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving break! November is nearly over and we have had an exciting month. We had a great time at the Georgia Aquarium last week and we have reached 20 boxes for our food drive. The food drive lasts through the 10th of December and our goal is 30 boxes of oatmeal or grits. Make sure to also look out for info about holiday shopper which will be the 2nd week of December.
We have fjnished up October with lots of fun. We celebrated red ribbon week and halloween, as well as enjoyed another Body Quest day.
In body quest this week, Mrs. McCullough discussed overcoming fears (specifically trying new foods). The kids got really into it and I managed to convince some of them to try some steamed cabbage at lunch. I wouldn't expect them to start requesting it at home, but at least they tried. ;) We had a great Halloween special snack. Thanks for all of the treats and goodies sent to school for our class!
Today was our first official session of the program Body Quest. This is a program that teaches nutrition and healthy choices to 3rd graders across Alabama and luckily it has finally reached BES! We started out talking about the Body Quest Warriors using trading cards about each character. Then we made our vow to make htealthier choices and each student was "knighted" as a Body Quest Warrior. I loved seeing their smiles as they were tapped on the shoulders with the giant carrot sceptor. We ended the time with healthy to go snacks of spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrot. I can't guarantee that everyone loved them, but they all tried them which I am counting as a success. We are looking forward to more healthy fun next week!
If you would like me to send a picture of your child being "knighted", let me know. I will add pictures to the gallery asap. Make sure to talk with your kids about the healthy choices we are leaning about! :)
We had a great week showing our team spirit. Here are pictures of our week...
Monday was Class color day. We were orange!
Tuesday was crazy sock day!
Wednesday was hippie day!
Thursday was College team attire..
Of course Friday was Purple and Gold. Go Choctaws!
I hope everyone has a great weekend celebrating homecoming. Go Choctaws!
We are having so much fun this week with Spirit week. I will be posting pictures of all of dress up days on Friday. Today I wanted to share some pictures of our special visit and some October events.
We had a guest speaker visit with us today, along with some special tiny guests, bees! Don't worry, they were in a sealed container, but the kids were able to get a sneak peek at the bees and how they interact within their hive. The kids were very excited!
We will also be working on our addition facts with a new Ninja math activity. Students will be able to earn belts (go to the next level) once they master a certain number of facts. We will also be starting The Book it program. Students who read for 20 minutes a day all month, which is already our daily homework, will earn a free pizza coupon at the end of the month. Information will be sent home about both programs within the next week.
Don't forget that tomorrow is College team attire and Friday will be purple and gold. If someone will be checking out your child on Friday who is not already on their list of approved adults, please send a note by Friday morning. We will not be able to take permission by phone calls, only written notes. Go Choctaws!
Wow! September is almost over and so is the 1st 9 Weeks! We are having a great year!
Next week will be very eventful too. Monday is the crowning of the king and queen, Wednesday we will have special visitors to teach us about bees, then we will finish off the week with the day of homecoming and the parade. To help us celebrate and support our highschool, we will be having a spirit week as well.
Monday- Class color day. Our class is dressing in orange.
Tuesday- Crazy sock day
Wednesday- Hippy/ 70s day
Thursday- College/ sports Team shirt
Friday- homecoming shirts or rock that purple and gold!
Since the week will probably be hectic with all of the fun, we will not have any reading tests next week. Go Choctaws!
This month has started out pretty good. We have had a lot of fun with science and we have already finished our first math unit!
Since it is a short week, we do not have a reading or vocabulary test and our spelling is just review. Next week we will be starting a new math unit involving adding and subtracting within 1000! We will also take our science test on Friday September 18th.
Here are a few reminders... Grandparents day is tomorrow and we will have lunch at 12:10. The. field trip has been set for November. We are going to the Georgia Aquarium. Please make sure to return the letter sent home today.
Here are a few pictures of our farmers in celebration of Mr. Bolding's birthday today.
I am very excited to meet my new group of 3rd graders! While I hope everyone enjoys the last few weeks of summer, it will be here before we know it! Here are a few reminders and suggestions to help the year start off smoothly.
Orientation for 3rd and 4th grade is on August 4th from 4:00 to 6:00pm. This is a great opportunity to meet the teacher, me :), see the classroom, drop off supplies, and pick up the necessary paperwork. I love getting to meet students and I believe seeing the classroom helps those first day jitters everyone has.
The first day of school is on August 6th. If you are unable to come to the orientation, this is the day to drop off supplies and pick up paperwork. Please return paperwork as soon as possible, especially the forms for emergencies and contact information.
This year I am using an app/ website to communicate with parents. It is called remind101. In order to recieve announcements you can text @3hbes to 81010 or I can add your number or email to the list. If you download the app, you can also chat directly with me. While there will be times when I can not reply immediately, like during school or during family time, I think this will be a great tool for parents who need to discuss or ask questions. I will still send information home in folders and I am available for conference.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone soon! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
