I am very excited to meet my new group of 3rd graders! While I hope everyone enjoys the last few weeks of summer, it will be here before we know it! Here are a few reminders and suggestions to help the year start off smoothly.
Orientation for 3rd and 4th grade is on August 4th from 4:00 to 6:00pm. This is a great opportunity to meet the teacher, me :), see the classroom, drop off supplies, and pick up the necessary paperwork. I love getting to meet students and I believe seeing the classroom helps those first day jitters everyone has.
The first day of school is on August 6th. If you are unable to come to the orientation, this is the day to drop off supplies and pick up paperwork. Please return paperwork as soon as possible, especially the forms for emergencies and contact information.
This year I am using an app/ website to communicate with parents. It is called remind101. In order to recieve announcements you can text @3hbes to 81010 or I can add your number or email to the list. If you download the app, you can also chat directly with me. While there will be times when I can not reply immediately, like during school or during family time, I think this will be a great tool for parents who need to discuss or ask questions. I will still send information home in folders and I am available for conference.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone soon! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
I know that it seems like the lists get longer every year, but these are just some of the supplies we use throughout the year to help students learn, stay healthy, and to keep our classroom clean and sanitary. With 20+ kiddos in a room, supplies disappear quickly, so it is very helpful for parents to help with costs. You are appreciated! We couldn't do our job as well without your support with materials and at home. The 3rd grade supply list can be found at the back of the school, or at Walmart in Centreville. I am also posting it here, just in case they are all gone.

I know it was only two days, but this first week has been amazing with our class! I have to admit that my favorite part was watching the students work together on the STEM (science technology engineering math) challenges. They did great on the 50 cup building challenge and rescuing Freddy the worm with only paper clips. I will post pictures as soon I recieve all of the student handbook sheets.
Next week we will start getting into our math and reading lessons. We will have our first reading and spelling test on Friday. Keep a look out for a studyguide to come home on Monday.
